Porsche Looks At 4,000 New Job Cuts Amid Ongoing Restructuring

Luxury automaker Porsche is reportedly considering eliminating up to 4,000 more jobs as part of a new cost-reduction programme.

Luxury automaker Porsche is reportedly considering eliminating up to 4,000 more jobs as part of a new cost-reduction programme, a move that could significantly expand the workforce restructuring already underway at the company.

According to a People Matters report, the latest round of reductions would primarily affect management and administrative functions. In addition, Porsche is reviewing nearly 30% of capacity at its Weissach research and development centre, one of the company’s key engineering hubs.

While Porsche declined to confirm the reported figure of 4,000 jobs, the company acknowledged that it is preparing a comprehensive restructuring plan.

The proposed layoffs would add to a series of workforce measures already announced this year. Porsche has previously outlined plans to eliminate around 1,900 positions by 2029 through natural attrition. Of those, approximately 2,000 fixed-term employment contracts have already expired. In May, the company also announced the closure of three subsidiaries, affecting another 500 employees.

Earlier this year, CEO Michael Leiters had indicated that further job reductions would be necessary beyond the initial restructuring programme as the company works to improve efficiency and adapt to changing market conditions.

If approved, the additional 4,000 layoffs would mark one of Porsche’s largest workforce restructuring exercises in recent years. The initiative comes as European automakers grapple with slowing demand, rising development costs, and intensifying competition from Chinese manufacturers.
