Workday Partners Anthropic To Integrate AI Into HR & Finance
Workday has partnered Anthropic to integrate Claude AI models into Workday’s Sana platform, for seamless HR and finance workflows.
Workday and Anthropic have announced a partnership to integrate Anthropic’s Claude AI models into Workday’s Sana platform, letting employees complete HR and finance tasks across both platforms while keeping existing business permissions and controls.
Announced at Workday Rising 2026, the Workday-Anthropic partnership combines Claude’s reasoning capabilities with Sana’s AI agents and Workday’s enterprise data and business context. Employees can begin work in either Claude or Sana, with the platforms exchanging information and tasks through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI systems with external tools and data.
The companies said the integration is designed to help employees complete complex business processes without having to restart tasks or repeatedly transfer context between applications.
Within Sana, Workday’s AI orchestration layer, the technology will coordinate Workday agents across complex HR and finance workflows.
Processes such as compensation planning and financial close, which can take weeks, could be handled as continuous workflows, with AI agents managing tasks and routing exceptions to employees for review.
For example, Sana could use Claude’s reasoning capabilities to draft a manager’s communication explaining an employee’s pay increase. The system would provide Claude only the context required for that task, while keeping the underlying data within Workday.
Employees will also be able to access Sana agents directly within Claude, analyse Workday data and initiate actions without leaving the AI interface.
A hiring manager, for instance, could compare open positions with existing headcount and budget before developing an internal mobility plan to fill roles with current employees. Finance teams could check invoice exceptions against purchase orders and approve them in Claude or route them to Sana.
The companies said actions would remain subject to existing Workday permissions, audit controls and customer-defined access rights.
The partnership will also allow joint customers to build their own AI agents directly in Claude using Workday Agent-Ready Tools.
According to the official statement, these tools will retain Workday’s governance, security and audit controls. Administrators will be able to establish the connection without creating a separate permission model or configuring access individually for every user.
The approach places Workday’s business rules and access controls at the centre of AI-assisted workflows, while allowing employees to use Claude for reasoning and task execution.
“Customers want the best domain AI agents for both their people and money that understand the business rules they run on and leverage the extraordinary reasoning in Claude,” said Gerrit Kazmaier, president, product and technology at Workday.
The partnership builds on an existing customer relationship between the companies.
Anthropic uses Workday Financial Management and Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) for its finance and people operations, relying on the platform’s governance, rules, approvals and audit controls.
Workday, meanwhile, has deployed Claude Enterprise and uses Claude Code across product and development teams. Its Workday Developer Agent also connects with Claude to help developers build on the Workday platform.
Ankur Sinha, head of engineering, enterprise and verticals at Anthropic, noted that the partnership brings AI reasoning into decisions that affect employees’ pay, roles and careers.
He further added, “Claude brings the reasoning to help people make those decisions faster and with more confidence. Together, they let Workday customers plan a compensation cycle or close the books, with their own controls applied at every step.”
The companies said they would continue developing the integration as customer requirements evolve, expanding the ways Claude and Sana work together.
